To apply for membership, download the application on the right. Fill it out completely including the service area state map and mailed it with your check for $150 to Iowa Geothermal Association, 5619 NW86th #600, Johnston, IA 50131. Contractor members must supply a certificate of insurance.

Why Join the Iowa Geothermal Association? .....................................................................................................................
The Iowa Geothermal Association was formed in mid 1991 as a non-for profit association dedicated to providing services for its members and to help create a successful heat pump industry in the state of Iowa. There are many benefits with the Association currently offers and several opportunities for the future.

Technical Training, Local Chapters, Information Exchange, Promotion, Web Site, Web Site Linking, E-mail links, and Networking are a few items the association is strong in.

What is the annual membership fee to belong to the Iowa Geothermal Association? ................................................................
The annual membership fee for contractor member and associate member is $150 for State Chapter dues.

  • Contractor Member is any proprietor, partnership or corporation actively engaged in the business of designing, retail selling, installing or serving heat pump systems.
  • Associate Member  is any member not involved in the business of retail selling, servicing, or installing heat pumps as a contractor, but who is identified with the heat pump industry. This type of membership includes electric power generators and retailers, distributors of heat pump equipment and heat pump manufacturers.

Contractor and Associate members have the privilege to vote at elections on business pertaining to the Association.

Is membership by company or individual? .........................................................................................................................
Membership in the IGA is by company. More than one member may join the IGA and many companies have more then one member in the association. This allows better circulation of information when companies have more then one office or districts they operate from.

Does one have to be an Iowa Business to Join? ..................................................................................................................
No, the IGA provides for members from surrounding states and national business, manufactures and associations to join. Our web site is design to promote these members as well. The membership fee is the same.

What if one joins during the year? .....................................................................................................................................
The anniversary date for all membership dues is January 1st of each year. New members joining before this date will pay for a full year and have their second year membership pro-rated to the January 1st  anniversary date.

What is included in one's membership? ............................................................................................................................
Upon board approval of your membership, you will receive a membership packet, quarterly newsletter, and company listing on IGA web site with e-mail link and listing in our membership directory. The membership packet includes certificate of membership, decals and samples of promotional materials that are available. Workshops, training sessions and seminars usually provide for a discount to the member.

The Iowa Geothermal Association encourages you to seek out a high-quality Geothermal contractor for submission of a proposal for your building.   When selecting a Geothermal Contractor,   you should ask him these questions: 

  • Will he have the integrity to say no to my job if completing it would do me an injustice ?
  • Will he prepare a heat loss and heat gain calculation in accordance with accepted industry methods?
  • Will he abide by applicable codes   when installing a new or an add-on system?
  • Will he clearly state contract terms and warranties in writing.?
  • Will he fulfill promises for delivery, installation, warranties, and servicing?
  • Will he abide by established industry standards for safety, quality, and performance?  What are those standards?
  • Will he install and check the operation of all equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations?
  • Will he install or modify all air distribution systems according to recommended industry standards.?
  • Will he thoroughly acquaint me the customer with system operation, owner maintenance procedures, and steps that should be taken before calling for service?
  • Will he make every effort to adjust promptly any cause of dissatisfaction?
  • Does he stay diligently abreast of new service techniques and changes made available by manufacturers, the IGA, or others.
  • Will he conduct himself in a professional manner at all times?

All Members of the Iowa Geothermal Association strive to conduct themselves by these standards.  When you decide to pursue the services and products of our industry,  we encourage you to seek out a member of the Iowa Geothermal Association and discuss these issues with him or her in person.   You’ll be glad you did.
